once upon a time, there lived a little girl
so scared of herself she made up her whole world
she was lost and she wanted to be found
but her cries for help never made a sound
so she played the role of a damsel in distress
tied up her own ropes over her blue dress
all she ever wanted was to be felt sorry for
but once it's open, it's so hard to close that door
she's a masterful storyteller
weaving her words together like no one else before
and you are just a pawn without a name
trapped in her endless games
and you'll believe them all, and feel so small
so now this little girl, she knew how to make her mark
she gathered up the crowds, embracing every heart
they fed right out of her hands
and it grew larger than she ever planned
yeah our damsel knew she was in over her head
but she had so much to lose, so she cried harder instead
it made an avalanche of tragedy
and one by one, the hearts she touched began to see
that she's a masterful storyteller
weaving her words together like no one else before
and you are just a pawn without a name
trapped in her endless games
and you'll believe them all, and feel so small
what will you do when everybody says goodbye?
what will you do when everybody learns you lied?
why...
she's a masterful storyteller
weaving her words together like no one else before
but we've grown stronger through all the pain
trapped in her endless games
now her story's done, oh yes we won

sing a simple song, my dear, like the one you know by heart
it will take you far, my dear, just go ahead and start
you can't help but stare to know that it's all real, not painted in
and you don't blink or sleep for fear that you might miss something
sing of simple things, my dear, like a smile on the train
they will mean so much, my dear, and dry off all the rain
bathed in sunlight shining clear, it's unlike anything
funny how you feel at home in a place you've never been
and now you walk through life leaving a piece of your heart behind
it stays beating, hoping, dreaming you'll be back in time
so sing a simple song, my dear, like the one that got you by
it will never leave you, dear, even if you tried

it's getting near the end and i'm scared to death
i haven't quite figured out what's coming next
the map's all torn and frayed and i'm down and out
so i'll wait here quietly until i see what it's all about
but oh, i wanna scream and shout
because our days here are numbered
and all good things can't last
do you hear the thunder rolling in?
well, i'm not happy, but i'll have to be
through the looking glass
i've never been the kind to let it go
i'm not too good with words, can't let my feelings show
but now i've gotta say what's on my mind
gotta be the person that i've been trying to find
i wish i could slow time
because our days here are numbered
and all good things can't last
do you hear the thunder rolling in?
well, i'm not happy, but i'll have to be
through the looking glass
i hold my head as the stars fall
gotta get my wishes in before last call
breathe in that mountain air one more time
open my mouth and start to say goodbye
because our days here are numbered
and all good things can't last
do you hear the thunder rolling in?
well, i'm not happy, but i'll have to be
i'm not happy, but i'll have to be
i'll be happy, yeah i'm gonna be
through the looking glass
